The Spicy Squash
Updated: Mar 27

Winter officially descended here in Chicagoland which means "Soup Season" has also arrived. Trapped indoors under a few feet of snow - a spicy cream based soup seemed like the perfect partner to our Classic Southern Biscuits.
We love working with butternut squash. Squash is among the oldest known crops, dating back 10,000 years to Mexico and Central America. The name squash comes from the Native American word askutasquash, which means uncooked or eaten raw. It is wonderful for your immune system, eye health and can even prevent cancer.
When it is cold - we like to add heat to our soups. Here, we use fresh and pickled jalapenos. We also like to add a drizzle of our favorite hot sauce on top. Happy cooking!
